"The provision was always exact, always on time, and never once early enough to spare us the faith it required."

Leonora De la Cruz · Sent by God

A testimony that cannot be explained by human effort

In January 1991, Pastor Alfonso De la Cruz received a prophetic call at a breakfast gathering in Iloilo City. A woman of God rose, described him precisely, and delivered a message from heaven: go to Tagbilaran City, Bohol, and proclaim the gospel there.

Three weeks later, he and his wife Leonora boarded a boat with their nursing infant, no financial support, and fifty pesos in their wallet. What followed were four years of breathtaking provision — strangers with groceries, a landlady who asked nothing, a doctor who charged nothing, and a woman God woke at three in the morning to bring money to a family whose need He already knew.

Sent by God is not a story about extraordinary people. It is a story about an extraordinary God who deliberately chooses the weak — so that no flesh can glory in His presence.

This book is for every pastor, missionary, and believer who has ever wondered whether God still sees, still provides, and still arrives on time. He does. He always has. And He has never once been late.

Miracles That Cannot Be Explained

A Birth at Sea

En route to Tagbilaran on a midnight boat, a pregnant woman went into distress. With only a pair of scissors and a prayer, Leonora and her newly-graduated nurse sister delivered the baby safely — the first of many impossible moments on the journey.

🏥

The Doctor Who Asked for Nothing

Arriving sick in Tagbilaran with 250 pesos left, they went to a private hospital they couldn't afford. The doctor waived the fee, gave them medicine, and pressed money into their hands. For four years afterward, that hospital never charged them.

🕒

Three O'Clock

On their wedding anniversary, with no food for dinner, Leonora knelt and prayed at 3pm. An elderly woman arrived at the door — Nanay Teria — explaining that God had woken her at 3am to bring money. The timing was not accidental.

🏠

The Landlady Who Asked for Nothing

After negotiating rent from 3,000 down to 1,000 pesos, the landlady looked at Alfonso and said: "You and your wife can move in now. Pay me when you are able." She had known them for one conversation.

✉️

The Late-Night Envelope

At 10pm in Silay City, kneeling in prayer with no food for their children's school day — a tricycle arrived in the dark with an envelope. Five thousand pesos from a woman in Tagbilaran they had lost contact with years before.

🙏

A Child's Prayer

Their youngest son David, in Grade One, cried at the bottom of the stairs under his heavy school bag. He prayed simply: "Jesus, give us a house on the ground." Three months later, God gave them a four-bedroom home with a garage.

Leonora De la Cruz — Author of Sent by God

Leonora
De la Cruz, PhD

Pastor · Missionary · Songwriter · Author

Dr. Leonora De la Cruz is a pastor, missionary, and author whose life has been defined by radical obedience and extraordinary encounters with God's faithfulness. At twenty-two, she received her first prophetic word — that God would use the songs she wrote for His glory across many nations. It came to pass through two concerts, recordings produced in Japan, and music distributed across the United States and the Philippines.

In 1991, she and her husband Pastor Alfonso left everything in Iloilo City in obedience to a prophetic call — planting a church in Tagbilaran City, Bohol with fifty pesos and no support. Over the next decades, they pioneered churches across several cities including Bacolod and Silay City, and saw hundreds come to faith through gospel outreach, campus ministry, and community service.

She writes with one message: "You are not alone. God is alive, and He sees where you are." She and Pastor Alfonso are the parents of four children — Pauline Joy, Shad Roi, Checed Faith, and Al David — all of whom have established successful careers and continue to walk in faith.
